About Us

The Wooden Door, LLC was created and is operated today by New Orleans natives, Richard and Amy Ricks.  Amy developed a love for candle making on weekends as a way to relax and unwind after spending her weeks working as a Registered Nurse in one of New Orleans' busiest hospitals.  Amy's passion for quality and clean burning candles led her on a journey to create her own business and share her products with moms and nurses like her. 

When it came time to come up with a name for the business, Amy knew right away what she wanted it to be.  In her mind, Amy pictured the charismatic wooden door of their first home in the heart of Old Metairie where she and husband, Richard, lived for 15 years until outgrowing the space in 2021.

The Old Metairie home was much more than just a house, it was the "beginning of my life" according to Amy.  It was where I first met my best friend, husband, and father to my beautiful two children, Natalie and Richard IV.  Next door was our beloved grandfather, Pa, the 97 year old Marine Veteran that everyone knew and loved beyond words.  "Behind that wooden door was home and will always stay with me no matter where I am", said Amy.  

Today, Amy and Richard still live in Metairie where they operate The Wooden Door, LLC with their two children (Natalie and Richard IV), grandmother (Ma), and their two fur babies (Winchester and Remington).
